Academic Program
At Saints Peter and Paul School, academic excellence begins with attentive teaching, Christ-centered formation, and a classroom culture that emphasizes participation, personal growth, and the pursuit of virtue.
Saints Peter and Paul School follows the curriculum standards of the Catholic Diocese of Boise, and offers a well-rounded Christian education from age 3 through Grade 8.
Reading, Language Arts & Mathematics
Language arts is about more than being able to turn speech into text or text into speech. A truly literate human being has the fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and critical-thinking skills needed to understand increasingly complex information across any subject.
Writing, discussion, and oral presentation help students master how to listen attentively, organize their thoughts, defend their ideas with dignity, and debate with integrity.
Mathematics instruction balances understanding, accuracy, practice, and problem-solving. Students build fluency in essential skills while learning how mathematical ideas work and how to apply them.
Science
Science invites us to observe carefully, ask good questions, and draw conclusions from evidence. SPPS science programs teach this through demonstrations, projects, experiments, research, and other age-appropriate hands-on experiences that help students explore the natural world—and fall deeper in love with its Creator.
Religion
A Catholic education would not be complete without religious formation. Religion is both an academic subject and a way of life at SPPS, and the parish has put decades into building a program that is both deeply orthodox and genuinely accessible to those outside the Church.
Faith formation is supported by daily prayer, twice-weekly Mass, Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, feast-day celebrations, and community service.
Every class participates in the celebration of the Mass about once per month, serving as lectors and cantors. Students who wish to participate more deeply in the Mass are invited to participate in sacred music and altar serving.
Students of all faith backgrounds are welcome at SPPS. Catholic sacramental preparation is available on an opt-in basis and is not required for attendance.
Growth, Assessment & Responsibility
Teachers use daily work, observation, assignments, projects, and assessments to understand student progress and guide instruction. As students grow, they are encouraged to take increasing responsibility for their work.
Students learn to manage assignments and complete increasingly complex and long-term work.
Students practice speaking before others, asking for help, listening carefully, and explaining what they know.
Students develop the discipline to receive correction, work through difficulty, and use their abilities faithfully and well.
High-School Readiness
SPPS graduates step into high school with strong academic foundations, experience working independently and cooperatively, confidence communicating with adults and peers, and the habits needed to meet greater responsibilities.
Our alumni have gone on to distinguish themselves through academic achievement, leadership, service, athletics, music, and involvement in their communities.
Social Studies
Understanding the World We Inherit
It’s crucial that young people understand the world they have inherited and their responsibilities within it.
Social studies helps students recognize cause and consequence, evaluate information, appreciate the experiences of others, and understand the institutions and ideas that shape society.
Through projects, presentations, discussion, and research, SPPS students learn history, geography, civics, and cultural studies in a way that prepares them to be active citizens of a diverse world.
